Why do I need a financial advisor? Can’t I just do this myself?

With enough time and devotion you can do most things you set your mind to including managing your own investments and creating a solid financial plan for yourself.  Consider the following though:

  • Do you want to devote the time and energy it will take to amass the knowledge needed when you have so many other things going on in your life?
  • Will you stay up-to-date with the constantly changing rules?
  • Are you aware of the effect one financial decision can have on many others?
  • Is there a chance that there are some things that without years of experience and training you don’t even know, you don’t know?
  • Even if you know what to do, will you have the discipline to follow through and do it?
  • Are you able to see where you may have behavioral biases?
  • Can you take your emotions out of your decision making?

In addition to having someone who is knowledgeable that you can easily contact when issues arise, having someone to hold you accountable and help you take the emotions out of your decision making can be invaluable.

How are you compensated?

Harrison Financial Planning is a fee-only firm. We are compensated only by you, the client.  We don’t make commissions by selling products or receive compensation from making referrals to other professionals.  This compensation structure is the most objective available. Our fees are transparent and minimize conflicts of interest. You can rest assured knowing that if we make a recommendation it is because we feel it is in your best interest, not because we get paid to do so.

What does fiduciary mean and why is working with one so important?

A fiduciary is a person or organization that acts on behalf of another person or persons, putting their clients’ interest ahead of their own.  It is hard to believe, but a very large number of financial advisors aren’t held to the fiduciary standard or they are only required to uphold it during certain transactions.

We abide by the fiduciary standard at all times. Your interests will always be placed first.

Do I need a certain amount of money to work with you?

Unlike many wealth management firms, you do not have to have a certain amount of investable assets to work with us. We want to be able to help you at any stage of your life and know that you may not have any current savings or investments outside of your employer sponsored plan.

What if I don’t live in the mid-Missouri area? Can I still work with you?

Absolutely! We are fully equipped to work with clients throughout the country. 2020 taught us that we don’t have to be location dependent and that there are even benefits to being able to interact without being face-to-face. We can meet by phone or virtually and utilize technology to handle all of our client’s needs. Schedule a time to meet with us.

I want to find out more. What is the next step?

Schedule a complimentary meeting to see if we would be a good fit.  It’s as easy as finding a time on our calendar.
